Distribution of Wealth

Since days of yore, there is a disturbing disparity existing among men. It is unexpected how riches is conveyed with obvious disparities, coming about to a mind-boggling measure of cash obtained by a few while others stay in the pits of neediness. Maybe some would see the ownership of billions of dollars as ethically inadmissible, while others would see this as a characteristic outcome of human instinct. It is very disturbing how outrageous ways of life is tormenting our general public and debilitates our fundamental capacity as people. Be that as it may, this has been the issue since the primary presence of man. Furthermore, maybe this only a characteristic inclination, and that the genuine nature administering humankind is that there is a law of equity.Individual needs is fundamentally thought to decide his asset obtaining. Or on the other hand in any event, it would fill in as a pattern or a standard with respect to how he would lead a better than average sort of living. Hence log icians and individuals by and large have characterized that the necessities of society would be the essential built up factor for equity and riches circulation. Are men made equivalent in this manner ought not gain more than his neighbor? Or on the other hand are men innately inconsistent, being that others are better than the ones next than them? Some ask, â€Å"Is it right that a few people have procured billions of dollars through professional interactions while others live in extraordinary poverty?† Two prestigious scholars have shared their perspectives on how the dissemination of riches ought to be. John Locked stated, â€Å"God gave the world to men in common.† He accepted that the accessible property in nature has become the limitation inside which man sets his work and ways of life. It is his conviction that each man has his own entitlement to work, to claim, to devour, and not to be transgressed.â He further expounded, â€Å"Which measure confined each ma n’s ownership to a moderate extent, and, for example, he may proper to himself without injury to anyone, in the main age of the world† (Hutchins 1952, p. 1047).Locke examined this standard of property, which is â€Å"that each man ought to have as much as possible make use of† without both incurring injury towards others and condemning them. It really was very perfect and it worked effectively in past occasions, when there most social orders advance opportunity and free endeavor. Locke imagined that this world could give enough land to every single individual who wishes to assemble a home and that everything that the world holds would have been sufficient for individuals to endure had it not been for the innovation of cash. Along these lines, individuals have gotten involved by their aspirations of getting more riches, riches as enduring items with extraordinary excess. There ought to have been sufficient assets for everybody to live on, yet these assets appear to be scant for most. The world is given to men and in this manner each has an equivalent right to everything the earth could offer. How much a man works would decide the amount he gains. His work would compare his riches obtaining as his ability to devour is controlled by his capacity to deliver. In the event that one has unreasonable measures of riches, at that point this involves there is squander. What's more, this waste is an infringement of nature’s laws. Due to cash, man has gotten ready to gather riches through time, sparing legacy and working for additional to hand down. Since cash isn't transient by time, man just continues having a greater amount of it with no potential cutoff points. Cash permits riches collection without causing injury towards others (Hutchins 1952, p. 1047).Rousseau then again, accepts that there is a discriminatory obtaining of riches and that men are made inconsistent. He accepts that it isn't cash itself that isâ the reason for the presence of imbalance of humankind, yet the property itself. He even idea of the principal man who has made a fenced in area to a land parcel and asserted it his that caused others to trust him is really the genuine organizer of common society. As it has gotten an option to build up responsibility for property, this riches amassed causes one to need more to and grow what he as of now owns.Others will in general overlook the destitution that encompasses them, and when inquired as to whether they pay heed on these, as saw by Rousseau, they attempt to not mind as it would influence their inclinations of possessing more. They need to shield their assets from the dangers of being assaulted or taken. Humankind has built up a common law that they propose is with the end goal of security for everybody, yet in all actuality they just start this as to make sure about their responsibility for and power. This rather results to the infringement of the privileges of poor people, as it just abridges their opp ortunity to improve their ways of life. It really chains poor people and just makes the rich significantly wealthier. This subsequently lead to the obliteration of common freedom, it just fixed the law of property and disparity, and transformed offense into a right, just for the upside of the couple of (Hutchins 1952, p. 1048). When others’ are hurt, man is in this manner given the â€Å"right to rebuff the guilty party, and be killer of the law of nature† as proposed by Locke.Rousseau accepted that it is in opposition to nature that solitary a couple ought to be advantaged to have a broad measure of riches while others, a large number of others, are in critical need of the essential necessities of life. This is the reason he recommended that there ought to be a legislature that would fix this and permit each and everybody to be furnished with the base needs that they have. A â€Å"government ought to forestall extraordinary disparities of fortunes† not by persu asively taking a man’s ownership from him,â but rather keep him from gathering it. It is a greater amount of keeping the individuals from getting poor or excessively rich (Hutchins 1952, p. 1048).It is to be sure a reality that every person ought to have an equivalent access to whatever asset they need. They ought to be given equivalent chances to endure and to lead a specific way of life fitting them. Cause I accept that there is in reality imbalance and disparity among humanity. Both Locke and Rousseau introduced solid theory on the subject of riches obtaining. Theirs are very reciprocal somewhat as they share that each man has a privilege of property. Each attested that the issue of destitution isn't a difficult that could be effortlessly settled, nor would there truly be an answer for it, when the privilege of property is conceded. The privilege of property is supposed to be consecrated and is an essential right of citizenship to a nation, yet there is a significant trou ble in making sure about the property of people without assaulting it on another.I accept that it is genuine destitution is an inescapable outcome of property, as war is an unavoidable result of sway, and in neither one of the cases can the reason be annulled. Both recommended that men ought to be equivalent, and men ought to forestall, as attested by Hegel himself. Men should imagine that they are equivalent, as to forestall offense against one another. Be that as it may, in all actuality everybody is made unique, and these distinctions involve that there are disparities in capacities and aptitudes among man. Be that as it may, it doesn't imply that one has a more noteworthy significance than the other, they are essentially different. But their disparities specifically zones imply that it very well may be as riches. Men in general are equivalent, however specifically angles, they are definitely not. Also, that is reality that the universe holds. I accept that Rousseau’s propo sition of a legislature protecting the interests of its residents by forestalling mass riches securing or broad asset shortage is perfect. In any case, this is as promising as it is nearly impossible.Because similarly as socialism fizzled, people have this normal propensity to exceed the other, and that the childishness inside would command the need to place things in their legitimate spots. The individuals who might uphold these recommendations are themselves men and in this manner error prone, making the whole proposition too ridiculous in for the human setting. If Locke was posed the given inquiry, he would state that it having riches notwithstanding the neediness of others is indecent however actually good. Since cash has legitimized riches amassing as it permits one to get more extravagant without causing another individual to get more unfortunate. Anyway it is shameless, as men are made equivalent and should all have enough assets vital for them to have nice existences. Men are not responsible to his neighbor except if he violates the other’s rights. He just responses to himself in this manner he has the privilege to turn into whatever he satisfies inside the limits of not making hurt others. If Rousseau responds to a similar inquiry, he would state that it is certainly corrupt, anyway a typical event, and must be forestalled definitely. This is the reason he recommended that an administration ought to forestall extraordinary finishes in the public arena. This is a remarkable dream of many, as all have needed a general public that exists in regard. That there ought to be a general public with its part with no source or reason of envy, or rivalry, since everybody ought to have enough. Be that as it may, actually, man knows no limits and doesn't need enough. Man needs to have copious of everything, and this is the significant wellspring of the considerable number of contentions in our present reality and for the entirety of history. In times when he h imself is undermined of his assets, his life or other material riches, he would not intuitively act in agreement for the benefit of all yet to benefit himself alone. What's more, whenever allowed to approach accommodations that the world brings to the table, he would take it.The focal issue that plagues humankind is the presence of cash or property or any structure material belonging. Maybe it is indecent as in it makes uniqueness and it doubts what moral commitment does an individual have. For in reality, how might one rest around evening time in their elevated beds while others

I remember telling myself that the Ontario Lottery is a multibillion-dollar-a-year business, he says. They must know what theyre doing, right? That night, however, he realized that the voice was right: The tic-tac-toe lottery was seriously flawed. Nothing needed to be scratched offâ€"-the ticket could be cracked if you knew the secret code. See if you can figure out the secret code within the unscratched Ontario Lottery ticket pictured here. So, did Srivastava take the lottery for millions, like the MIT Blackjack Team took Las Vegas for millions? I remember thinking, Im gonna be rich! Im gonna plunder the lottery! he says. However, these grandiose dreams soon gave way to more practical concerns. Once I worked out how much money I could make if this was my full-time job, I got a lot less excited, Srivastava says. Id have to travel from store to store and spend 45 seconds cracking each card. I estimated that I could expect to make about $600 a day. Thats not bad. But to be honest, I make more as a consultant, and I find consulting to be a lot more interesting than scratch lottery tickets. Instead of secretly plundering the game, he decided to go to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. Srivastava thought its top officials might want to know about his discovery. Who knows, maybe theyd even hire him to give them statistical advice. People often assume that I must be some extremely moral person because I didnt take advantage of the lottery, he says. I can assure you that thats not the case. Id simply done the math and concluded that beating the game wasn’t worth my time. Maybe theres something to be said for the old saying, The Lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math.

Organizational Structure Of A Corporation - 1197 Words

Appex Corporation When Ghosh joined Appex, he walked into a company full of chaos with no definable structure. The rapidly growing company was ill-equipped to manage its growth at the rate it was expanding. There were no formal policies or structures in place to manage this exponential growth. As the number of products increased the lack of structure became more pronounced. The work became mostly crisis management, leading to a decline in customer focus and production. Additionally, finances were not managed with any planning or structure causing Appex to lose money rapidly. Ghosh, eager to test his skills, attempted several organizational structures to stabilize Appex. Circular Structure Circular structure is a nonhierarchical organization structure with the senior executives in the center. One problem identified was that current employees could not relate and new hires did not understand. Hammarabis Law Code Essay - 789 Words

Hammarabis Law Code Many people may not know it, but they have heard part of Hammurabis Law Code before. It is where the fabled eye-for-an-eye statement came from. However, this brutal way of enforcing laws was not always the case in ancient Mesopotamia, where Hammurabi ruled. The Laws of Ur-Nammu are much milder and project a greater sense of tolerance in an earlier time. The changing Mesopotamian society dictated this change to a harsher, more defined law that Hammurabi ruled from. It was the urge to solidify his power in Mesopotamia that led Hammurabi to create his Law Code. It must first be noted that the Laws of Ur-Nammu were written some time around 2100 B.C., around three hundred years before Hammurabis Code.†¦show more content†¦One law stated that if someone severed the nose of another man with a copper knife, he must pay two-thirds of a mina of silver. Another contains that if a man proceeded by force, and deflowered the virgin slave-woman of another man, that man must pay five shekels of silver. According to these laws, the crimes of assault and rape were reduced to payment for injury. Hammurabis Code was not nearly as forgiving. While The Laws of Ur-Nammu doled out fines as penalties, Hammurabis Code delivered death for many crimes. Hammurabi also has a much different view concerning the treatment of rape: If a man violate the wife of another man...and sleep with her and be surprised, this man shall be put to death, but the wife is blameless. Also, assault was no longer punishable by just a fine: If a man put out the eye of another man, his eye shall be put out. Death was a sentence for false accusations, theft and robbery, bad construction, kidnapping, as well as many other offenses. By the time of Hammurabis rule, Mesopotamia had formed its own identity. While it remained a land where most any person could be accepted, the time for regulating the territory had come. These laws were just one part of an effort to create an organized nation-state by Hammurabi. Fig. Torque on each motor on the quadcopter If all rotors are spinning at the same angular velocity, with motors 1 and 3 rotating clockwise and rotors 2 and 4 counter clockwise, the net aerodynamic torque, and hence the angular acceleration about the yaw axis, is exactly zero, which implies that the yaw stabilizing rotor of conventional helicopters is not needed. Yaw is induced by mismatching the balance in aerodynamic torques (i.e., by offsetting the cumulative thrust commands between the counter-rotating blade pairs). Materials Used The main materials needed for building a quadcopter are: propellers, frame, and motors/rotors. In our project, we have used a hybrid combination of plastic and wooden frame. The frame have been crafted out from a sheet of light weight wood, and have been designed according to the need. The propellers are made of plastic, and are of fixed pitch. They are durable and good for the project. Very high RPM brushless DC motors have been used in the project as rotors. Fig. Propellers Fig. Li-Po battery The battery is the most important component in a Quadcopter. The battery used in our project is a Li-Po battery, which is rechargeable. The battery has to be powerful enough to give the Quadcopter the desired time flight. Result The quadcopter has been designed and implemented on the hardware successfully. The quadcopter takes the flight like it should, and can be manually controlled. It has a microcontroller embedded in it, and it can be programmed to work on its own. The battery once charged can be used to fly the quadcopter for about 15 minutes. Better battery can be used to make it fly for longer durations. The flight dynamics and flying can be controlled by controlling the rotors separately, or in pairs. Evaluation A very light weight material has to be used for the quadcopter frame. We have used a combination of plastic and wood. But instead, if we used the whole body made of light weight plastic, it would have been lighter. The se of carbon fibre material is also recommended. It is a very light material, and hence, perfect for the small quadcopter project. It is also very sturdy and can be used to carry weights with the quadcopter as payload. These weight can be camera or GPS devices, or such instruments, if we wish to extend the project further and make it more useable. The use of better battery is also recommended. Through, the battery should be always Lithium ion polymer battery, as it can provide a steady current for a longer duration of time. If the battery has more mAh rating, it could provide current for longer duration, and hence, the quadcopter could take longer duration flights. Also, if we wish to extend the project by integrating other peripherals like camera or GPS device to the quadcopter, a better battery would be needed to power such a device too. The quadcopter can be made wireless by using and integrating a wireless device with it, like Wi-Fi device or a Bluetooth device. Most popular device used with quadcopter are ZeegBee, which are should distance wireless devices. They can be easily integrated and programmed with our project. The project doesnt require any special maintenance. Though, the battery, if not taken proper care of, can become useless after some time. So, it should be properly turned off and disconnect after every use. The charging and discharging cycle should also be kept in mind. Conclusion The quadcopter has become a very important field of research and development. It has been expected to take over many important activities like delivery system, and extensive use in defence. We have successfully developed and implemented the hardware of a Quadcopter in this project. The functionalities of the developed project is: it can take a flight, change direction, change altitude, rotate.

Lego.Com Case Study Essays - Lego, Lego.com, Robot Kits,

Lego.Com Case Study Lego Mindstorms The non-commercial website Lego.com has been an enormous success providing Lego with a strong presence on the Internet. However, implementing a website capable of handling sales transactions requires a great deal more than a non-commercial site. The firm has implemented an ERP system which may provide some technical support for the website. The details of the ERP system are unknown at this time; however, the goal of implementing the system was to optimize the supply chain from production to distribution, which will be a significant opportunity for the E-Commerce project. Another important consideration is incorporating the ERP system into the E-Commerce transactions so that separate systems and processes are not necessary. The Lego company enjoys worldwide brand recognition; ranking 5th in the global toy market behind such giants as Mattel Hasbro Sega and Nintendo. The Lego.Com website is among the top 10 sites for children. Both of these factors represent a significant strength for the firm over competitors. The firm has traditional sold to retailers and other middlemen and has little experience in direct consumer sales. This has been the case in the past the typical buyer of Legos products are not the consumers of the product. The firm currently generates 5 % of total sales from the catalog sales of its products. The catalog operations may provide supporting resources for direct sales logistics and experience in direct consumer sales. The firm has both financial and employee resources to support the E-Commerce implementation. Legos philosophy underlies all company activities and supports to a large degree their branding strategy. The Lego vision Idea, Exuberance and Values requires that all Lego products stimulate childrens imagination, creativity, and are high quality products. The LEGO MINDSTORMS products as all products in Legos offerings align with the firms overall philosophy and represent a strength for the company. However, the E-commerce site must handle sales in a way that supports the firms philosophy; such as quality service, creativity, and the belief that children are the vital concern. The LEGO MINDSTORMS product line already meets the standards; however, the website and the entire process including marketing to order fulfillment must be carried out in the traditional Lego philosophy. Throwing away the ideas, the philosophies and the definition of the Lego company which has in the past proven very successful for the company in any Lego E-Commerce website or operation is a mistake. This stren gth separates Lego from the other 2 billion sites on the web that could sell blocks of some type of Legos own products. Lego has a global supply chain already in place and includes processes of planning, production, distributing and logistics. The E-Commerce project will impact distributing and logistics because of the differences in delivering to consumers versus delivering to retailers and other distributors. Delivering the product on time and correctly is a main priority of the E-Commerce site and can prove to be a strength or a weakness. Currently Lego, Inc. has companies and offices in 30 countries and covers 6 continents providing a great deal of resources needed for both the selling to consumers and perhaps some of the infrastructure existing can support the Lego Mind storms e-commerce sites. Many issues arise from Legos target market being largely children. The first problem is moving from a child wishing to buy a Lego product to a parent paying for the product. Many ethical and legal issues must be addressed when marketing to children. One possible way of dealing with these sensitive issues is to allow parents to customize the web site and pre pay purchases using gift cards. Two advantages result from this strategy; the first is giving parents control over what products and information is available to the children. For example, a parent may decide to restrict the product catalog to the lower cost products and products that offer more of an educational experience. The other advantage is that this strategy will address payment issues. A further advantage coming from allowing the children to do their own shopping on the Internet is providing a fun experience to the child. The American market should be the starting point for the firms e-commerce efforts because of complexity of infrastructure in terms of logistics, marketing, legal issues,

This has demonstrated to be even more effective than the traditional way of holding advertising campaigns. The overall mission of Toyota is to contribute to the society and the economy by producing high-quality products and services. This is achieved through the Toyota way, which is a philosophy, built on five principles: challenging long-term visions and approaching them with creativity, Kaizen i.e. continuously improve business processes. Genchi Genbustu which, means going to the source to verify the facts in order to make accurate decisions; stimulating teamwork and performance and finally respect for the others and the environment by responsibility for it. Thus, Toyotas concept of sustainable mobility is key to achieving the Toyota way, which believes in respecting the atmosphere, and taking care of it. The Toyota National Parks project has been very successful. Parks included in this partnership are Yellowstone National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Everglades National park, the Golden Gate Bridge Foundation, Yosemite National park, the Grand Canyon and the Santa Monica National Recreational reserves. The program tries to engage with the visitors at the park personally and expose them to Toyota’s hybrid vehicles which when used in a natural setting are able to receive messages about sustainable mobility. A corporate image study which was recently conducted shows that Toyota ranked highest among its competitors namely Toyota, Honda, Ford and GM when it came to indicators such as ‘Leader in High MPG’, ‘Leader in Technology Development’, ‘Environmentally Friendly Vehicles’ and in the ‘Wins Environmental Awards’ (107). I would suggest that Toyota gets involved in even more activities that raise environmental-friendly awareness. They should be proactive

Consumer Participation in Mental Healthcare in Australia Research Paper

Consumer Participation in Mental Healthcare in Australia - Research Paper Example The optimistic logic of mental health is that it leaves a special variety of stress on human emotions while mental illness conducts negative stress on human thoughts and actions. However, mental illness is not subjected to any physical illness or disease but considered, as a psychological disorder in humans ((Editor),H. Tristram Engelhardt Jr (Editor),S.F.Spicker ). During 1970’s, it was widespread that mental illness and mental health were the two different shaft of a continuum. Since, there are varying degrees of health and sickness that indicates a person’s behavior, a thin line is present between mental health and mental illness. However, one may become sick from being healthy subjective to enough stress and anxiety in social environment. Likewise, in 1980’s, this theory was rejected by (Michel’s and Marzuk1993; Wilson1993) stating that a person can either be sick or healthy (, Department of Health). According to this statement, mental illness in a per son is demonstrated by its abnormal behavior. For example, schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, anger, aggression and substance abuse etc. In addition, the sources of mental illness are biochemical, biological, neurological or genetics. Mental health delineates self-esteem, self-actualization and realization, ability to fulfill desires, and significant relationships. Consequently, mental health is far more different from mental illness (, Department of Health).   Subsequently, Australia and New Zealand have been working significantly in providing mental health care facilities to the consumers, as a result, the country’s national policies, effective strategies and legislation have been prepared.

Long Term And Short Term Goals General Studies Essay

Long Term And Short Term Goals General Studies Essay Long term goals could be described as a desired end effect for example; becoming a computer engineer is a long term goal for someone not in a related field. A good example of a short term goal would be that a person needs to fulfill an academic process giving that person the tools to obtain that career. Long term goals could be described as destinations and short term goals could be described as the route taken to lead someone to their destination. Values control a persons life rules therefore dictating their options for long term goals. Values are very important to goal setting because it is a part of what drives a person to decide on what their long term goals are and what they will do to achieve those goals as well as act as a motivator to drive them to complete their goals. Creating short term goals are like plotting a route on a map. Once you have determined a persons long term goals it is important to set waypoints to guide that person to their destination. This is how setting short term goals should be approached. There are similar systems for planning in the military called backwards planning. It is helpful to work backwards from your long term goals. For example; to get a job at a software firm a person must have a degree in a field needed by the software firm. To get a degree one must go to school and pass all the required classes to obtain the degree. In order to pass the classes that person must sign up for those classes. From this point the short term goals start to appear more like daily tasks, this is because short term goals can vary from daily to weekly to monthly. Some tactics used to achieving these goals are to define in detail goals that a person wants to achieve both short and long term this includes creating a time table for that person to check their progress and to see where they stand. It is also important to have partners that can help keep one another accountable for reaching their goals. Personally, this is a good tactic because people can help each other to strategize and brainstorm to create better detail for their goals. Finally it is important to anticipate problems; this is done by reviewing goals and developments that may impact progress. If a problem can be anticipated it a person has more time to react and adjust or prepare for a possible hitch in their plan. Check Point: Creating Goals. Your short term goals reach too far into the future. Please look over the reading material and my handouts regarding goals. Cindy Ewing The difference between short- and long-term goals, are that long- term goals are set to be reached in six months or more. A long term goal may be a goal that would take two years. Short-term goals are like taking small steps to get to the end of my long term goal. It is like a baby, one must learn to crawl before one can walk, Taking baby steps before one can run. My goal will be easier to achieve if I take small steps, or set short-term goals. My personal value is achieving my associate degree. I value this because, it is just for me. It is something that I wanted to do for a long time. I value what my degree will mean to me and where it will take me within the next three years. Along the way I will learn other valuable education tools to reach my goal. To prioritize my goal, I need to focus on my long-term goal; I need to know what value I have placed on that goal. The value I have placed on my goal is that I will be able to change my career, better myself, and achieve something that I have made excuses for why I could not do it. I need to prioritize my fulltime job, my responsibility of being a manager, my family, my schooling. All of these elements play apart in me achieving my goal. I need to list how much of the extra time I spend at work can I eliminate, I have an assistant, I need to shift some of my duties, my family is my support system, so there is understanding there that my school will take much of my free time. A friend of mine, they had a goal to buy a house within one year. They taped a picture of a house similar to what was wanted to the refrigerator. This serves as a reminder everyday why a night out, or a weekend get-away, or a shopping spree did not factor in at the time. That goal was reached for them in the time frame that was set. I can do the same with my goal. The career I want after earning my degree can be posted on my refrigerator. This will remind me why I should not do some of the things I have been use to doing. Skip the movies, or watching a television show, beside I can record it for later viewing. With my values in place, my priorities in order I am sure to succeed in meeting my goal. How they can be applied and how to maintain focus to reach the goals. Dreama Lane The difference from short and long term goals is; short- term goals are stepping stones toward the reach of a long- term goal. As in saying that you will have to break down your plans to reach the full long- term goal; long-term goals are attaining goals over a long period of time. You have to establish determination to make the effort of consistently to reach the goal. A person can align their long- term goals to their personal values by choosing whats more important in their goals. The more your goals reflects your values, the successful your motivation and desire to meet them. Some strategies for prioritizing short- term goals are: you can break the goals down in to groups that represent the first important steps of the short- goals. It will show the steps the time frame. Prioritizing will help you evaluate and handle the goals in order. Figure out what goals are very important, weigh your oppositions. By completing the goals you have to be attentive and focus all your energy on them. you can consider the evaluation of your values, your personal dilemma, and time commitments. After you accomplish the goal you would like to reach, define your goal achievement strategy, what will it take for you to reach your goals. Establishing what you have to do to carry the goal out, if you have to put this goal as first priority keep in mind that you have to take one step at a time. You can set a time limit for when you want to achieve any goals. Keep track of your progress so you can know how much further you have to go to reach the objective time period. Strive to achieve to move forward no matter what, follow your guide for completion to stay on top, even if you have to mark it down with a check list. Dont put all your eggs in one basket, be prepared to have a back up plan, in case your plans dont fall in order. You will have to re-evaluate your priorities until you can find what works best for you. Its best to anticipate for minor glitches, follow your steps map out the plan to help you reach the goals. How they can be applied and how to maintain focus to reach the goals. Harris Williams Topic: Goal Setting A long-term goal is goals that can be achieved in a six-month or longer period. A short-term goal is a goal that is expected to be achieved within 6 months or less. In my opinion, the difference in long and short-term goals is the amount of time that it takes to achieve the goal. For example, if a person is thinking about going back to school to get his or her masters degree, and presently the person only has an associates degree. In this scenario, the persons short-term goal would probably be the steps it would take to enroll at their school of choice. The long-term goal would be to earn the masters degree. For a person who is seeking to set a long-term goal, it would be a good idea to plan how you plan to achieve your goal. By it being a long-term goal, planning will be very important, because you need to realistically know that your goal can be reached and how you will fit it into your daily schedule. Some ways to prioritize your short term goals would be to make sure everything else that is of value to you is fitted into your schedule. It is very important to balance out school, work, and family time. Often times when people set goals, we really intend on achieving them, especially in the beginning, when the goal is set. Some of the goals we set whether long or short are reachable, but there is a valuable step in setting goals that we often do not do, it is called planning. To plan a goal, it would be helpful to write them down, make a few copies of your goals, post your goals in places where you will notice them, always have a realistic goal that is possible to reach. If your goal is impossible to reach, you could be wasting valuable time that could be put into a possible goal. For example, a realistic short-term goal could be to wake up every morning and do ten push-ups before I go to work, this can be achieved. An unrealistic short-term goal would be to get my masters within the next 2 years without an associates degree. Check Point: Creating Goals. Criticisms in An Inspector Calls Essay -- Critics An Inspector Calls S

Criticisms in An Inspector Calls 'An Inspector Calls' is a very thought provoking and rousing play. It was obviously written to make a strong point and illustrate the social gap between classes. This play was written in 1945 and since then, times and situations have changed enormously. However, this play still has great relevance today due to the fact that as a country we retain strong upper class societies who are very definitely detached. In the following essay, I aim to outline the many arguments and lines of thought that this play incites. To illustrate this I will use extracts from the play. I will also use my own thoughts and opinions: Before the Inspector enters, we are already forming opinions and views on the characters. Mr Birling seems very worried about wealth and social ranking. He says to Gerald who is his daughter's fiancÃÆ'Â ©, 'You ought to like this port Gerald. Finchley told me it's exactly the same port as your father gets from him.' Gerald's parents have a much higher social status than Mr Birling, and he is obviously trying to impress Gerald so he will pass it on to his parents. Mrs Birling also seems very prudish and stuffy. When Mr Birling makes a comment about the quality of the meal and asks her to inform the cook she replies with, 'Arthur, you're not supposed to say such things-' Although not as obvious as her husband, she is also trying to make a good impression and convey the fact that she is an important lady, with wealth and rank. She is anxious for the marriage between Sheila and Gerald to go ahead because she is always trying to smooth things over and make it run smoothly. For example, when Gerald tries to get Sheila to admit how much he loves her and she does not r... ...n anyway or show any sorrow or repentance. I think that this shows that older people find it harder to adjust and some people are just set in their ways and have no inclination to change. The play also illustrates and criticises the gap in social stature and behaviour. If people are believed to be 'upper class' then they treat anyone below them with disdain and no interest. This play is illustrating that the Inspector treats both classes with the same attitude. He treats the Birlings with the same respect or resistance he would to any other suspect or interviewee. He does not give them preferential treatment and I think that this is showing how everyone should treat each other. The play is criticising the fact that as individuals we do not consider the consequences of our actions, and that as a society we do not realise what one action can lead to.

Case Brief

CASE BRIEF Case: State of Missouri v. David R. Bullock, 03CR679889. MO, [www. courts. mo. gov/casenet] Facts:At the time of the filing of his appeal, Mr. David R. Bullock had been charged and convicted of attempted statutory rape (under RSMO 566. 032 and 564. 011) and attempted sexual exploitation of a minor (under RSMO 564. 011 and RSMO 566. 032). David R. Bullock engaged in several conversations via email and chat rooms with a Newton County Deputy Sheriff who was conducting a sting operation against pedophiles. The Deputy took on a persona of a thirteen year old female by the name of â€Å"Ashley Anne†. Many of the conversations that took place between Mr. Bullock and â€Å"Ashley† were of a sexual nature. During conversations between Mr. Bullock and â€Å"Ashley†, he discussed how he would like to engage in certain acts (sexual) with her and her friends (girls of younger age) and how he would like to video those acts. He informed â€Å"Ashley† that the conversations about meeting with her and her friends should not be discussed because it was not legal for them to meet. Eventually a meeting was scheduled for a time and a place to meet and specific instructions were given to â€Å"Ashley† on how the meeting should take place. â€Å"Ashley† was told that upon her arrival to the specified location, she should meet Mr. Bullock in a specific area of that location. On October 18, 2002, Mr. Bullock and the decoy â€Å"Ashley† were present at the specified location, along with computer and video equipment in his vehicle, which ultimately leads to Page 2 Mr. Bullock being arrested. At the time of the arrest, Mr. Bullock did not deny having conversations with â€Å"Ashley† but explained that if she would arrive, he just wanted her to be counseled by the authorities on the dangers of meeting strangers on the internet. Mr. Bullock argues that his case is a case of entrapment and that he took no â€Å"substantial steps† towards committing the crimes he has been charged and convicted of. History: David R. Bullock of Bowling Green, Missouri was charged and later convicted of attempted statutory rape and attempted sexual exploitation of a minor [the defendant was found guilty by] Jasper County Court in December of 2003. Mr. Bullock requested an appeal on the basis of entrapment and sufficiency of evidence. The appeal was granted and [The court determined] that [the defendant] in fact took substantial steps toward committing the crimes he was convicted of; and the theory of entrapment was extinquished because Mr. Brooks did not admit to committing the crimes and it was not proven that the commission of these acts were not of forethought [defendant being ready and willing to commit these acts]. The Appeal Court affirmed. Issue:Should people be convicted of crimes that are initially staged to seek out such individuals and are there distinguishable characteristics of acts that can be considered as â€Å"substantial steps† when it comes to gaining a conviction on these grounds? Mr. Brooks argued that if it wasn’t for the Deputy (â€Å"Ashley†) engaging him in such conversations, he would have not carried out those acts. He stated that he was only expressing his fantasies (which he was not charged or convicted of) and would not have considered acting upon them without the inducement of the â€Å"Ashley†. Secondly, he stated that conversations regarding future plans, solicitation or arriving at the Page 3 planned location does not constitute a â€Å"substantial step† in committing the offenses that he wasconvicted of. The court is left to decide whether the Defendant was predisposed and not induced to commit these crimes and if the acts that he carried out would be sufficient enough to be considered true preparation for the commission of said crimes. Decision:Yes. The appellant court affirmed the judgment of the lower court and upheld the defendant’s conviction. Rationale:The court reasons that the defense of entrapment is only available to a defendant if there is evidence both of an unlawful inducement by police to commit an unlawful act and the absence of a predisposition to engage in such conduct (the defendant was not â€Å"ready and willing†) to commit an unlawful act. Also, the defense of entrapment is an affirmative defense by which the defendant must admit having engaged in the proscribed conduct to be entitled to an entrapment instruction, which the defendant did not. Concerning the sufficiency of evidence â€Å"substantial steps†, the court found the analysis in State v. Young, 139 S. W. 3d 194 (Mo. App. W. D. 2004), to be accurate and similar to the case at hand. In this case, the defendant engaged in e-mails and instant messaging of a sexual nature with a sheriff posing as a 14-year-old girl. Id. at 195. The defendant made plans to meet the victim at a bowling alley at a specific day and time and told the victim that he would be bringing condoms, alcoholic beverages, and lubricant. Id. After the defendant arrived at the meeting place and was found with condoms, four wine coolers and lubricant, he was arrest. These acts were considered to be a substantial step Page 4 in the commission of the crime. Likewise, Mr. Bullock had sexual conversations with â€Å"Ashley†, requested to engage in sexual acts with her and friends (which were to be filmed), agreed to meet, gave instructions to â€Å"Ashley† on how to meet, arrived at meeting place with video/computer equipment and exited his vehicle and followed â€Å"Ashley†. The court assessed that these acts were deemed as criminal and are clearly crimes of attempted statutory rape and attempted sexual exploitation of a minor. Notes:I agree with the rationale and the decision of the court. Their citing of the State v. Johnson, 728 S. W. 2d 675 (Mo. App. S. D. 1987) which states that a defendant is not entitled to entrapment instruction when the defendant charged with selling narcotics denies committing the crime is identical to the circumstances surrounding Mr. Bullock’s appeal. One cannot claim entrapment when one claims no wrong doing to be trapped. Also, another great citation that made the decision of the appeal court clear was State v. Young, 139 S. W. 3d 194 (Mo. App. W. D. 2004). There were many aspects of the Young case that were similar to the Bullock case such as: sexual conversations with an underage female (law enforcement), future meeting plans, and incriminating items brought to the meeting. In reviewing the case it was apparent to me that there were several substantial steps that this defendant took and was acted upon with forethought to accomplish his planned crimes. The Effects Of Hormones On Infants Mothers Essay - 1341 Words

When expectant mothers are making their birth plans to deliver their new babies, one must have option is skin to skin contact directly after delivery. Babies are placed on their mothers chest resulting in reduced crying, improves mother baby interaction, keeps the baby warmer, and helps woman breastfeed successfully (Moore, Anderson, Bergman, 2007). Skin to skin contact can also stable a baby’s temperature naturally instead of having to place the baby in an incubator. Skin to skin contact also releases maternal oxytocin. Oxytocin causes the mothers temperature to rise which provides warmth for their baby. Oxytocin not only makes the mother calmer but also the baby, which increases social responsiveness. After delivery, the release of oxytocin can help enhance parenting behaviors resulting in the mother’s instinct to come into effect. Not all babies are able to get skin to skin contact with their mothers for many different reasons. Most common reasons are a caesarean section known as C-section, complications during delivery whether it being the baby or the mother, and also adoption cases. In some industrialized societies, separating the newborn from its mother soon after birth has become common (Moore, Anderson, Bergman, 2007). Research findings suggest that infant attachment to their mothers is due to earlier mother-infant interaction.
